Lake Serene Community Info

Lake Serene was the original waterfront community in the Hattiesburg area.  When Lake Serene was conceived back in the 1960’s west Hattiesburg didn’t even exist, and everything west of I59 was considered to be “rural’.  Today, as Hattiesburg continues on with it’s rapid westward expansion, Lake Serene finds itself at the heart of Hattiesburg’s modern city scape.   Hardly a detraction, the results of all this expansion have been increased economic activity and much greater access to goods and services.

One of the primary features of Lake Serene is quite obviously all the waterfront real estate.  There are two primary phases of Lake Serene (North & South) which are split by highway 98.  The south side lake is actually 6 bodies of water separated by earthen dams which serve as part of the road system.  The South lakes encompass approximately 450 Acres of surface water with designated areas for fishing and skiing.  The North Lake Serene features an additional 95+/- acres of surface water.  Lake Serene property owners have access to the lakes as well as community areas including a club house as part of their HOA fees.  As of this writing the HOA fee is approximately $350 annually.

Real Estate around Lake Serene varies quiet dramatically ranging from 1960’s ranch style homes to brand new modern construction and every thing in between.   Home prices can also vary quiet dramatically from $150,000 to upwards of a $1,000,000 with prices being strongly influenced by age, size, and most importantly condition of the home.  For those looking at waterfront property on a budget there are some great opportunities to purchase older waterfront homes that may only require a cosmetic remodel.
